Bitterness is a terrible thief and will steal away your identity. It can tangle itself within your spirit. It can have a terrible affect upon your life and health. It leaks into your joints. It leaks into your stomach and can literally make you sick. You might say, “That person is a pain in the neck.” And that might be literal – that’s why you have got an actual pain in your neck or somewhere south of your spinal column. “Resentment kills a fool and envy slays the simple.” Job 5:2
“You are only hurting yourself with your anger.” Job 18:4
“One man dies in full vigor, completely secure and at ease... Another man dies in bitterness of soul, never having enjoyed anything good.” Job 21:23-25 (NIV)
